1.] Park
[Korra is sitting on a bench, alone, looking as if the weight of the world was crushing her form. Her eyes are diverted to the ground, and her lips are curled into the most unpleasant frown. Looks like she could use an ear. Care to let her vent?]

2.] On the Streets
[What appears to be the combination of a dog and a polar bear is heading towards you. Atop its broad and powerful shoulders sits our budding heroine, Korra. The Polar Bear-Dog has its nose close to the ground, sniffing out a fresh trail.]

"What is it Naga? Smell somethin' funny?"

[The young girl looks over to you as the creature pads closer in your direction. Perhaps it was following your scent all along?]

3.] In Her Backyard
[A makeshift stage has been erected at Korra's residence. Several vintage folding-screens have been placed on old broom handles and pulleys, allowing the screens to spin with the slightest breeze. Korra stands before the stages of twenty or so screens with a determined look on her face.

Summoning a gust of air, Korra channels the elements towards the stage, causing the screens to spin and shift like wild tops. Without hesitation, she dashes for the stage.. Only to be knocked side to side as if she had run out onto the ice in the middle of a hockey game. Coming out the other side, battered and bruised, she hits the dirt with a grunt.

Care to comment on her air-bending training?]

[Why is there the sound of many turning walls hitting something repeatably? Well Cross isn't sure what it is but he's going to poke his head over the fence. He see's a girl who is a couple of years older than him, lying on the ground and looking frustrated. Tilting his head curiously, he speaks.]

Something wrong? You don't look happy.

[Korra blinks her eyes as she comes back to the living world. Sitting up with a jolt, she turns her head to the fence to see the young boy leaning over the divide. Curiosity turns to anger as her cheeks puff up in frustration.]

"No! Everything's great! Everything's grand! Just.. Smashing my face like an idiot 'cause I can't figure out Air-bending.. Just doing what "normal" girls do in their "backyards" or whatever you call 'em here."

[Cross tilts his head as he can see Korra's visible frustration. He looks to the spinning walls and back to her. It's not hard to figure out what she was trying to do. But he does listen to her when she starts getting more frustrated.]

You know, it's okay to be frustrated over whatever you're trying to do. But what's important is that you don't give up.

[He hops over the fence to examine these walls.]

Soooo...what were you trying to do?

[Korra rose to her feet, patting the dirt from her clothing as she kept a close eye on the young boy.]

"Geez, you sound an awful lot like some one I know.."

[Turning to look back towards the stage, Korra drew in a deep breath of air before continuing.]

"You aren't gonna' shake your head at me like every one else in town are you? 'Cause if you are, let's just skip it and not waste our time."

Is that a compliment?

[He looks over to her and grins, before putting his attention back on the walls.]

Nope. Unless the goal was to get smacked between these things like a pinball machine, then maybe. But jokes aside, what were you trying to do?

[He honestly looks both fascinated and curious.]

[As if Korra was trying to hurt herself on purpose! Scoffing at his remark, she walks on to the makeshift platform and raises a hand to stop a flipping plank.]

"I was trying to get to the other side of the stage without being hit. It's an air-bending training exercise. I figured while I'm stuck here, I might as well try and get back into my routine."

Air bending? What's Air bending?

[She'd heard the question before, but it hadn't lost its effect of causing her to twitch.]

"Oh man, where do I even start?"

[Pacing back and forth, Korra begins her "lesson".]

"So there's four elements, right? Air, water, fire, and earth. Where I come from, people can control them. They're called "benders". Right now, I'm trying to learn how to be a better airbender."

[Hearing this whole manipulation of the elements sounds like magic. Which means if this girl has magic...she must have power. Which means...Cross is instantly going to fawn over here and assume she helps people with it.]

S-so you're like a hero than? That's so cool! I bet you help lots of people with your air bending! Right?

[Korra stifles a faint, nervous laugh under her breath.]

"Ehh, heh. Uh, y-yeah! I uhh, I help lots of people where I'm from with my.. terrible lack of knowing how to properly airbend."

[Bellowing out a lengthy and painful sounding sigh, Korra sat herself down on the stage and began to rub her temples in circles.]

"Uggh. I'm hopeless."

[Okay, that garners Cross's concern. That laugh didn't sound so reassured.

And he was right.]

H-hey, don't be like that!

[Cross is going to sit down beside her and look at her.]

Hey it just takes practice, that's all. So, you just need to keep practicing and doing whatever it takes to get better you know? You're only hopeless if you finally give up.

You seem to be carrying a big box of rocks, hon.

[ The woman is standing a few feet away from the bench. ]

[The young girl comes to and turns towards the voice. Stumbling on words, she's able to cough up a few words before she could come off as rude.]

"I'm sorry? Is that some kinda' earth-bending joke?"

Not that I know of... could be a rude suggestion, somewhere. But where I come from it means you look like someone with a load of trouble on their mind.

[ She smiles. ] Need someone to help carry it?

[Bringing her feet up onto the bench, she pulled her knees into her chest and dropped her head down. She was still audible from bunching up into her folded arms.]

"There's only one Avatar where I come from.."

Hm, that sounds like a very difficult job.

[ The woman sits on the opposite side of the bench. ]

One is one and all alone and evermore shall be so...

[ It almost sounds like a ritual chant. ]

[Korra raises an eyebrow, shooting the strange woman a glance of curiosity.]

"I.. I beg your pardon, Miss..?"

It's an old folk song. One that the guardians in my world have to remind them that even though there is but one at the focus, there are others who are there to support them.

[ She smiles gently. ] Not just the working circle, either.
