[Action - At Work]
[Being the wife in a domestic setting was nice for the most part, but being able to work only 'feminine' jobs was kind of a let down. Still, she had secured a place in the library shelving books and it brought back memories of her childhood.

It wasn't anything like she expected though, considering that the books were either 'How to Make 100 Casserole Dishes' to 'Sewing and You'. The creepy obsession with the 1950s stereotype was kind of making Hayate queasy in her own way.]

Maybe I should try to find something to read after this...

[Anywhere in Town]
[Shopping for food was something she was intimiately familiar with, being that she provided for herself for many years, and then helped a group of people grow into their roles. Still, she clucked her tongue at the prices. They were horribly inflated that day even for the prices that were typically found during the time period they were supposively inhabiting.

Waving the grocery boy over, she held up an orange, and put on her best 'Fussy Lady' powers.]

Young man, I've got a complaint. Three for a dollar? That's highway robbery! They're at least worth sixty cents for five. I mean look at the condition these are in! They're mushy on the inside, and the skin is broken on many of them. I demand a lower price for these, or I will find my business at Grovers instead of Barnums!

[The young man whimpered and stammered an apology, and soon Hayate was loaded with good produce for the best prices. As she left the store, she grinned, having made out like a bandit.]

[Event]
[Hayate kept running. There was nothing for it, and those horrible things were after her. She had no powers, and only a stick in her hand. Hurdling a fallen log, or maybe that was a charred person, she kept running and running and running. Her lungs burned and she realized she really was reduced to squishie mage, emphasis on squishie.

There really wasn't anything for it, and Hayate inhaled as she turned the corner, daring to raise her voice in this absolutely frustrating, and horriflying. situation.]

EEEEEK! SOMEONE SAVE ME!

Is whatever it is that's chasing her any stranger than the anthropomorphic peacock she just barrelled into while screeching?

While she may have run into him, she doesn't knock him over and, in fact, he manages to pivot, letting her momentum continue while he remained more or less stationary.

"Watch where you're going!" he shouts with that level of indignance that only the English (or those with English voice actors) can achieve.

[Okay, the anthropomorphic peacock was odd but she had horrors behind her and she was a helpless woman with a stick!]

We may need to run, now ya know. There's creatures after me!

"Do tell?" he answers, peering round the corner. It's as though he really doesn't care about her or her monsters. Probably because he doesn't.

Yes, they're right behind me!

[Peering around the corner, she blinked. Where... did they go?]

"I... see." Does he? All that greets his eyes is an alleycat stalking a few trashcans.

"Ailurophobic, I take it?" Don't laugh, Shen, it's undignified. Don't laugh, don't laugh don't laugh--

Snicker. Snicker chortle hee hee hee....

"..." That was odd, they were right there. And now the peacock is laughing at her. Great.

A heavy blush like that would make most people stop laughing and possibly even apologise. However, Shen is not from Japan and, furthermore, is royalty, so he has no such instinct. Instead, he chortles and snickers even more. Clearly, this is the funniest thing he's seen all day.

This face. Forever. She was not amused. And they were right behind her anyhow!

[Shiki was completely unaware of the screaming girl when he himself turned the corner. The way she was acting, frantic and panicking, was misunderstood... y'know, until the things chasing her came into view. The time for questions would come later, but the time for action was now. Taking her wrist, Shiki attempted to lead the girl around the corner and away. The only place he could think to take her? His own house.]

C'mon, and don't try to make too much noise.

T-thanks! [Hayate was already breathing hard as she followed behind quickly. They were outpacing those things but it wouldn't be too long before they caught up. Hopefully, not any time soon.]

[Everywhere in the environment was examined. The homes. The things chasing them. The mailboxes. Everything. There had to be some way to slow the things down, right? As if answering his prayers, Shiki discovered a trashcan on the side of the road. Rushing over, it only took him a moment before he knocked it over and rolled it toward whatever was chasing them. As soon as the trashcan was down, the teen quickly ran to grab Hayate's wrist again and to keep running. The way he acted was methodical, cool, and silent... Wouldn't it be a shock if he was some kind of kid born to an assassin family? Wait...]

[Hayate kept pace, despite her lungs and legs burning. She felt like she was going to collapse, having been running for so long. Sweat blurred into her vision as she wiped it away with a free hand.]

D-do you know where we're going?

This isn't my first time around the block, so yeah. [Huff. Huff. Huff. Shiki's body was naturally more athletic due to his assassin DNA, even if he didn't get to retain his abilities from back home. The sudden twist of Shiki's heel was dangerous for him, though luckily it didn't sprain. The house in front of them's door was burst open and ushering Hayate inside, Shiki quickly slammed the door shut and held his back to it. The urgency in his eyes was only matched by the quickened beating of his heart, as he kept himself against the door to wait and see if whatever was following them would try to bust it down.]

[Hayate took stock of the house. There were large windows where they could get at, and they could come through there. Or perhaps something to wield as a weapon. There were kitchen knives and stuff used for fires. But still...]

All right... we should.... be okay for now... [Hayate was breathing heavily. She was fit, but running halfway across town had severely drained her stamina.]

[The heavy breathing was noticed instantly by Shiki who, with the mindset of the good Samaritan, went into the kitchen and came back with a glass of water. The smile on his face was his attempt at reflecting his kind nature.]

Here, I think you might want a drink after all that. Who were those... no, what were those things chasing you?

[Taking the drink and knocking it down, she gasped loudly before heaving one final time before straightening up.]

I don't know. They just showed up and started chasing me across town, and I'm sure they didn't want a interview for the library.

Well, you should be safe here. I wouldn't wander the streets alone anymore since they have you as a target. You're free to stay here as long as you like.

[Oh crud, Shiki almost forgot about this...] By the way, my name's Shiki.

Hayate. Thanks for saving me by the way.

[Her legs gave out at the moment and she collapsed onto the floor in a puddle.] Ow.

[If Shiki had a nickle for every time he was told that... he'd probably have 10 cents. A bit of silence came from him out of the sudden collapse but instead of panicking over it he just tries to help her up.]

I wouldn't feel right if I just left someone like that.

Yeah, I wouldn't either... if I had my powers, I'd have blasted them already. But I have absolutely nothing.

[God she felt helpless and useless. She hated that.]

You have your mind, and that's powerful enough. We're alive aren't we? Animals survive in the wild on pure instinct alone without anything over-the-top. As humans, we have stronger minds.

[This is one of very rare moments that Shiki is trying to give a pep talk. Which is why he has a reassuring smile. Whether he's good at it or not, well... your mileage may vary.]

Yeah... yeah you have a point. Thanks, Shiki.

[She did smile at that. And at least it was okay for the time being.]

[Since there was no use standing any longer, Shiki moved his way into the living room and set himself down on the couch. Fingers twiddled with one another as he stared up at the ceiling, an arm draped over the back of it and a hand coming to rest on his lap.]

For right now, I think we should discuss what to do if they come in here. We don't have many places to run, and we can't run away forever. [Though, given Shiki's pacifistic nature they may very well be doing that...]

[Hayate followed, sitting down in a chair.]

I think so. We can't keep ourselves barricaded in. We'll need a way out if they try to get in.

We could jump out the windows, though I don't think we'll want to cut ourselves on the broken glass. Still... we might not have a choice.

That's definitely something I wouldn't want to go through.

[Shinji flash steps in, Blade drawn]

[Sakande transforms into its release state, the pommel becoming a large ring that rotates around his hand without having to touch it]

[a pink mist envelop the beast's making them fumble around, trip, or walk backwards, Shinjii turns to Hayate.]
Are you okay?

Y-yeah. Lemme... catch my breath. [Hayate is breathing heavily, wiping her forehead.]

[Shinji returns to his usual demeanor]
Hate ta' interrupt ya but there'll probably be more on there way.
I suggest we shuffle on outta here!

Right. You lead. [Biting her lip, she gripped a stick that was sitting on the ground as she followed behind Shinji, looking in each direction for potential disaster.]

first ya need ta bunker up somewhere, preferably in a group.
[Shinji opens a fridge.]
this place seems well stocked so supplies shouldn't be a problem
[Shinji removes a pickle from the fridge and continues talking.]
second, ya'*munch* need to barricade doors and windows. as ta stop em gettin' in,
[Shinji cuts a rather nice looking chair into wood and cloth.]
And, thirdly *munch* i got all this from a movie.
