[ Luc, never known for attending mass directly at the Grand Cathedral, has actually shown up this time. While he wore his trademark mask for the entire mass, he has taken it off for the post-mass reception, now that most of the Church officials who don't already know who he is (and don't care) are the only ones left.

Luc, never one for mingling, is off in a far corner of the room, being a wallflower. Dare ye approach? ]

[ On this fine day, Luc is now near the Rift, examining a ruin full of hieroglyphs. He appears to be looking for something in particular; particularly, a suit of black armor. Why? Who knows. All he knows is that it's related to another of the 108 Stars of Destiny, and the 27 True Runes. Try not to bother him; when the mask goes on, it's all business. ]

[Hey, it's that chick that's been part of the church for basically forever... who's always looked the same, too. Byakuren approaches, smiling warmly.]

You need not be so distant, Ser Luc. We are not here to judge.

[ Wiping his face down with a cloth - a metal mask had a tendency to make him sweat when worn for extended periods of time - Luc turned to Byakuren, somewhat aggravated at being approached like this. ]

Suffice it to say that I am not here at my own discretion.

Hey, you there!

[A somewhat tall woman wearing very little to cover herself slowly walks toward Luc.]

You're not supposed to be here, this area's been evacuated. There's a camp nearby, I can take you there.

[ Luc didn't turn to face her. He had a piece of parchment and a piece of charcoal, etching the inscribed hieroglyphs onto the paper. ]

I'm a Bishop of the Church.

[ He said simply, paying no mind to her. ]

I'm researching these ruins.

You seem ill at ease for someone within these halls of worship.

You could say that I don't fit in well, here, Bishop or no.

[ The fact that he looks much younger than he actually is doesn't help, either. ]

The Cathedral can be many things, but in the end it is what you make of it. If you do not feel at peace here, perhaps another locale may suit you? I admit this place is a bit too extravagant for my tastes.

That isn't an option.

[ He's glad people don't know exactly who he is, or why he's here. He does prefer his privacy, and despises pity. ]

Though, I suppose I appreciate the concern.

Well, we all must see to our duty, I suppose.

[ Luc actually despised being in mass. All of this talk of submission... it made him sick. Freedom was mindless submission to a deity who cursed him with such a hollow life; it was being free from fate itself. This much he learned from from the Seeress, and from his very creation by Alphonse Delacroix. ]

Duty. I suppose that is one way to refer to it.

[ Just not the duty he's thinking of. ]
