[A. Afternoon | John Doe Park | Jintetsu by himself]

[The walk here might have agitated him, but after he'd been in the park a while Jintetsu had begun to calm down. The trees may have been perfectly uniform from a distance, but when you climbed them they were just trees, and something about sitting in the branches soothed his anxiety a bit. From here it was harder to see where he was, easier to keep to himself. And once he'd snapped off a dead branch and taken out the folding knife he'd found in his room, his hands had something to do, even if it was nothing more than aimless carving.

Wafer-thin wood shavings and the occasional leaf drifted downward as he whittled away at it, but he didn't think to hide them. If he was discovered, it couldn't be any worse than when he was out in town at large, now would it.]


[B. Afternoon of a different day | Jintetsu's house, congratuations you're his not!family!]

[Anyone coming into the kitchen after school may find an interesting sight. Jintetsu is seated at the kitchen table, trying to puzzle out his math homework, but a katana with an eyeball set in the hilt lies on the counter nearby, with the phone handset laid next to it. It's a win-win arrangement - Jintetsu doesn't get distracted, and Haganemaru (the sword) gets to talk to people besides him for a change. ... But it doesn't make the homework itself any easier, and Jintetsu's getting visibly frustrated.]


[C. Same afternoon as B | Phone | Haganemaru by himself]

[So yeah, moshi moshi, Haganemaru desu.]

All right. Hello? Is this thing turned on? I swear, I'm never gonna get the hang of all this technology. They're telling me I can just talk into this device and everybody in town can hear me. In that case, better watch what I say, huh? Ha ha. I'm not even sure I want to go announcing who I am with God-knows-who listening in.

[Eyes Jintetsu for a moment, who's still hard at work on a bunch of stuff he can't help with ........]

But it's not like I have anything better to do, I guess. I'm Haganemaru, nice to meet you. Don't worry, a friend filled me in on the basics about this crazy town, so I'm all out of stupid questions. But the one thing that's been bugging me lately - apart from everything else that's been bugging me, anyway - it's this thing about "other worlds." I hear everybody here comes from a different world, however the hell that works. Somebody want to fill me in on that? Tell me - I don't know, tell me about your "world." I'm curious.

[We'll pretend this is after whatever regain takes away Jintetsu's voice again, but before whatever one gives him back his mask. i.e. lol pretend i have any relevant icons at all

He glances up at her, startled. He'd thought there was nobody else in the house when he started - had she just come in? His gaze snaps to Haganemaru, trying to get his attention, but the sword is deeply involved in some kind of argument with the phone and hasn't noticed just yet how busted they are.]

[ino]

[And Ino is just blinking in confusion, wondering why he looks like he just stole the last cookie from the cookie jar. She's glancing back and forth between him and his sword, before settling on him]

Are you okay?

[jintetsu]

[Jintetsu sighs and gets up from the table, crossing over to the counter. Meanwhile, Haganemaru does what he's best at: gab.]

... and furthermore, even if they were related - oh.

[At this point Jintetsu picks up the sword, and it promptly notices Ino there and shuts up. Jintetsu turns back to Ino, and Haganemaru speaks again, but not in his own words this time.]

Sorry. We didn't think anybody else was home.

[ino]

[She just watches this in surprise. Huh. Interesting sword ...]

It's fine, no worries. {She'll give him a reassuring smile] You just looked like you were having a hard time.

[jintetsu]

[He relaxes. A little. At least she doesn't seem all weirded out in a negative way, but he has yet to find a good way to disguise Haganemaru's voice as his own without his mask. It is a bad time to suck at lip-syncing convincingly.

A hard time... oh, she means this damn assignment, huh...]

It's ... not the kind of work I'm used to.

[ino]

Oh yeah? [she'll sit down across from him, moving to grab the paper and look at it curiously] Ahh ... math, huh? Sorry, I don't know much about that, either ...

[jintetsu]

[Oh thanks, "sis," some help you are. Jintetsu sets Haganemaru down on the table nearby and extends his hand for the paper.]

That's fine. I wouldn't want to take up your time, anyway.

[ino]

Oh, you don't have to worry about that! I don't mind. [she smiles, handing him back the paper] Is there a textbook that maybe explains it better?

[jintetsu]

[Jintetsu looks a little apprehensive. What is this "being social"? Still, he..... really does need the help. The alternative is getting sent to that weird demoness counselor again although she's at the elementary school but shhhh musebox. He sighs and begins searching through the backpack at his feet, eventually bringing out his math book.]

There's a book, anyway. If you can make heads or tails of it, be my guest.

[ino]

[she'll take the book and flip through it a little, before glancing at his homework ...]

Jeez, I'm sure if Sakura were here she'd be all over this. [a sigh] Hmm, so this is the section on ... what, exactly? [looking back and forth between the homework and the table of contents]

[jintetsu]

[Somehow he's a senior, so it's like Algebra II. But it's clear from Haganemaru's tone of voice that they both think this is the dumbest bullshit anybody could call "math."]

... Imaginary numbers.

[ino]

[ .... yeah, she's lifting an eyebrow at that too. but also thinking, wow, this is advanced stuff for a little kid ...]

Why would you need imaginary numbers when there are already plenty of real ones?

[jintetsu]

[HE'S LIKE 17 OR 18 HE'S NOT LITTLE........ well okay he's kind of little but only cause his robot parts stunted his growth]

Your guess is as good as mine. They might as well call the class "Imaginary Math."

[Jintetsu sighs through his nose ... during the sentence dfkslja. The eye on the sword narrows in irritation, both at the stupid math and at getting cut off in the middle of his other conversation.]

[ino]

[HE LOOKS LITTLER TO HER OKAY THAT MAKES HIM LITTLE ...]

Well, it says here that "i" is equal to .... negative one with a little check mark next to it.

[ .... yeah, she's not going to be much help, is she]

[jintetsu]

[This is getting pretty ridic right here. Jintetsu gives the equation an "are you fucking kidding me" face, but Haganemaru glances up at him and makes his own suggestion.]

Maybe we'd better ask someone on the telephone.
