Then the mood was instantly broken because Izuru made a stupidly cliche or otherwise unfitting comment.]

[Whatever you're fighting, the combat is going badly. Which is a shame because there's something at stake here - civilian lives, an important installation, something like that. Command gave orders to retreat - but Red Five is hesitating.]

I know. I know it makes sense to fall back right now, and I know that I'm no hero yet.

But... But if I do that, I won't be able to face those people when I return!

I'm sorry! Red Five, taking off!

[Right into the fray he goes! But what's this, Izuru's AHSMB moves with speed and precision like never before! Is this heroic willpower in action?]

This must be because the Juria System agrees with me.

[Clash! Izuru enters melee with the first line of foes - but his unit spins while striking, shoots beam rounds from the chain sword/gun, and continues forward!]

Thank you, Red Five! We'll do this together!

It's reckless either way, but this might just be what we need...

[Maria's white Temjin follows suit- displaying its trademark agility by destroying its opponents - which are Virtuaroids sporting black and red paint schemes contrasting with her own - while maneuvering around them.

It also swings the weapon twice to launch a pair of crescent energy waves that slice through some beams and solid projectiles headed for Izuru. Curiously, these sword waves don't do much damage to the enemy even with a direct hit, but at least the projectiles are taken care of.]

I'm right behind you, Red Five. Don't overdo it! The Shadows take any opening they can get!

[Speak of the devil - a virtuaroid sneaks up on Izuru from behind. But Red Five's eyes flash and it stabs backwards, delivering an under the arm counterstrike.]

Okay! Please watch my flanks.

[The Temjin takes aim with its Sleipner sword/rifle, and the large blade of the weapon splits down the center - transforming it into a giant beam cannon. A devastating blast is let loose upon the Shadow virtuaroids, but...]

Aaagh!

[Maria's unit is suddenly hit by a heart-shaped energy projectile that explodes smashes it into some nearby debris. The culprit: a Shadow version of one of these.]

To get hit by something like that...how did I forget to cancel right after!? That's not a mistake I'd usually make!

[To add to the embarrassment, there are now stars spinning over the Temjin's head.]

[That one robot looks kinda cute... but Izuru is merciless! Red Five punches Shadow Fei-Yen in the face, then revs up the chainsword and starts slashing madly, cutting off pieces with every slice.]

What happened? Are you alright?!

...I'm fine, I think. Maybe I just got too caught up in the moment...

[Her machine shakes its head too, just to get rid of those stars. And then, it points at the remains of the Fei Yen as Maria remarks bitterly;]

'Least I didn't have to deal with that one myself. Thanks.

Ah, thank goodness!

[Side effect of having to go and assist Maria - the assault's momentum is broken, which means more enemies try to surround you from all sides.]
