That might be because by all rights, you should've been killed when you were four, going into that situation.

We didn't have a choice. Dad was too injured to go to Namek, and then we had to train for the androids when we got back.

It wasn't. But the invaders killed four of our friends, so it was only me and Krillin going to Namek alone until Dad recovered. And then after that, the androids were going to be so strong that we needed every able fighter we could get.

[Because if what he was saying was even remotely true, they'd have to be crazy to have a kid be fighting against it.]
